City of Sanford Parks & Recreation Solar System Upgrade

Commercial solar PV modernization near Fort Mellon Park, with JA Solar 440-watt modules, upgraded microinverters and new Enphase monitoring.

Sundial completed a solar PV modernization project for the City of Sanford Parks & Recreation facility near Fort Mellon Park in Sanford, Florida. The work replaced aging solar equipment with newer PV modules, upgraded microinverters, updated mounting attachments and a new Enphase monitoring platform.

Original installation

The challenge

The existing installation used older 200-watt polycrystalline PV modules and Enphase M-Series microinverters. The facility needed an approach to modernizing this aging equipment.

Our solution

Sundial’s owner reports that Enphase recommended Sundial to assist with a discounted equipment-upgrade opportunity for the existing M-Series microinverters. Sundial evaluated the installation and recommended replacing the PV modules as part of the modernization.

The original 200-watt modules were replaced with JA Solar 440-watt modules. Their higher wattage allowed Sundial to redesign the system with fewer modules and fewer replacement microinverters than a one-for-one replacement of the original equipment would have required.

Installation and commissioning

Sundial upgraded the aging microinverter equipment, replaced the original PV modules, and updated the solar mounting attachments and related installation hardware. The team configured a new Enphase monitoring platform and verified system operation following the upgrade.

The result

According to Sundial’s post-upgrade observations, the modernized installation is operational and producing more electricity than the original system.
