Sun tunnels—also called tubular skylights or solar light tunnels—direct daylight from the roof through a reflective tube to a ceiling diffuser. Sundial provides professional installation for homeowners throughout all of Volusia and Flagler Counties.
Every room and roof is different. Suitability depends on the roof, attic space, tube path, ceiling location, obstructions and the selected system. We evaluate those conditions before recommending an installation.
How Do Sun Tunnels Work?
A roof-mounted daylight collector receives sunlight and directs it into a reflective tube. The tube carries that light through the attic or roof space to a diffuser installed in the ceiling below.
The diffuser spreads daylight into the room. Available light changes with the time of day, weather, roof exposure, tube length, bends and the selected product. A sun tunnel is a daylighting system, not a promise of constant light output or guaranteed energy savings.
Natural Light for Interior Spaces
Sun tunnels can be useful in bathrooms, closets, hallways and other interior areas that have limited access to exterior windows. They can also provide an alternative where the size or construction of a traditional skylight is not practical.
Not every room is a good candidate. The ceiling location must connect to an appropriate roof location through a workable tube path. Framing, mechanical equipment, electrical runs, attic access and room layout can all affect placement.

Integrate with the Roof
The roof opening, flashing and exterior collector must be suited to the roof and installed with careful attention to weather protection. Some applications may require coordination with a roofing contractor.
Finish at the Ceiling
The reflective tube connects to a ceiling diffuser that distributes daylight into the room. The finished location should make sense for both the room and the route above it.
Roof and Application Considerations
Roof material, slope, structure, available attic space and the distance between roof and ceiling all matter. The correct flashing and installation method depend on the selected product and roof application.
